Position Overview

Responsible for achievement of catering revenue and sales pertaining to the hotel's other revenue earning services and facilities as well as to maximize guest experience. Take full responsibility to manage, coordinate and be accountable for planning, implementation, and executing the event until departure, including the final settlement of account for all conventions, meetings and incentives with less than 10 accommodation rooms per night.

Act as the point of contact for customers related to corporate sales, DMCs, PCOs, organizers with a strong focus on building long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable the hotel to achieve its sales objectives. This includes all aspects of both the client's and hotel's needs and requires periodic follow up, including information dissemination, and working within established Capella Policy and Procedure. Also achieve personal sales goals and is involved in the planning of sales goals.

This role is an integral part of the hotel's positioning in the luxury sector and will be essential in proactively targeting high-profile clientele. This role requires the successful candidate to work hours to suit the business needs and will include evening and weekend hours.

The Role

  • Develop sales action plans to target corporate and MICE business and associations in the assigned area as discussed and instructed by Director of Event and Director of Sales & Marketing. The action plan must be specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time bound.
  • Follow overall sales strategy as specified by the Director of Event and Director of Sales & Marketing.
  • Work with sales leader to ensure understanding of sales strategy and effective implementation of this strategy for the segment.
  • Proactively identify, qualify, and solicit new business to achieve personal and hotel revenue goals.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of market trend, competition, clients and guests. Understand competitors' strengths and weaknesses, and know how to sell against them.
  • Prospect new business through phone solicitation, on-site sales calls if required, customer visits to the hotel, sales blitzes, direct mail, newspaper and on-line research.
  • Ensure a sales focus on all facilities including Food & Beverage, Catering and Spa, inclusive of all experiences.
  • Anticipate guest's needs through observation and offer prompt, efficient service either personally or through effective communication with other associates.
  • Close the best opportunities for the hotel based on market conditions and hotel needs.
  • Communicate all information through regular follow-up with client to ensure all aspects of event have been cost-effective, established, and serve both the client's and hotel's needs.
  • On regular basis, review banquet room allocations and expected delegate numbers and communicate to internal departments and contractors where applicable.
  • Finalize events requirements from pre-event to post-event providing the client with constant assistances where needed.
  • Perform at the highest standard of service reflecting the Capella's image and core values that transcend in the way we conduct business and build customer relations and patronage.
  • Must be knowledgeable about the hotel product and services.
  • Have proficiency in S&C Opera and the S&M computer program. Maintain an updated company/contact profile, key information, sales activities, and event database, in order to extract necessary and accurate client information / reports (Opera).
  • If required, organize sales calls to develop new potential market.
  • Maintain deposit schedule and ensure deposits, contracts, and settlements are received as due. Communicate any shortfalls to Director of Events.
  • Adhere to all Capella standards, policies, and procedures
  • Communicate challenges and celebrate successes in order to address shortfalls or provide insights in regards to event operations to concerned departments.
  • Review and monitor Event Satisfaction Survey and understanding guest's comments and aspects where event operations can improve.
  • Proactively develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Identify opportunities for value added services to increase sales profitability and anticipate client needs.
  • Represent the customer needs to the rest of the hotel, and constantly identify and communicate potential new revenue opportunities to the Director of Event and Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Use data and other resources to maintain an awareness of the hotel's market position. Research competitors' strategies to identify ways to increase market share.
  • Coordinate of all aspects of the departments operation to ensure that the services of the Department are delivered to guests or internal customers with the aim of exceeding guest expectations and in accordance with Capella's standards.
  • Develop strong community relations. Network in the local market, in the industry and professional organizations. Participate in tourism and entertainment networks. Ensure departmental participation in community service events to build teamwork and enhance community relationships.
  • Work to meet goals in a manner that does not disadvantage other employees or groups.
  • Actively pursue learning and self-development to enhance personal, professional and business growth.
  • To maintain the strictest confidentiality on all matters relating to Capella Bangkok plus all other sales and personnel related matters.
  • Undertake additional duties as requested by Director of Events
  • Personally ensure compliance with all relevant work

Talent Profile

  • Diploma of college or university, preferably in Hotel/Hospitality Management.
  • Minimum two (2) years' experience in similar role in a luxury hotel / resort.
  • Butler experience is of advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with personable character, a team player and good at cultivating strong guest relations.
  • Very good command in spoken and written English.
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to multi task and prioritize.
  • Ability to handle stress and stay calm under pressure.
  • Good conflict resolution skills with decision making and judgemental skills.
  • Flexible regarding the work schedules.
  • Competent computing skills (e.g. Microsoft Office).
